Welcome to the Grit City Carnivore Project!
The Grit City Carnivore Project is a partnership of the University of Washington Tacoma, Point Defiance Zoo & Aquarium and Northwest Trek Wildlife Park. Together we’re monitoring coyotes and other carnivores within the south Puget Sound region to better understand their distribution, study human-wildlife interactions and promote peaceful co-existence with carnivores.
Report Your Sightings
You can participate in the Grit City Carnivore Project! Visit the Carnivore Spotter tool to report sightings of coyotes or other carnivores in your neighborhood. Created by Woodland Park Zoo and Seattle University, this tool helps researchers better understand where these animals live and how they interact with people in our urban and suburban areas. You can also explore sightings posted by others throughout the Puget Sound region.

Grit City Carnivore Project research has already resulted in the capture of thousands of wildlife photos. These photos are not just of coyotes, the primary research focus, but of the diversity of species that call our region home.

Be Prepared, Not Scared
